Minimum Requirements For Building Safety

Updated: Jul 2, 2019

You are one of the many professional trades people in the construction industry, but do you know the minimum necessary requirements for health and safety around the construction of new buildings or new building work in existing buildings?

Do you know when floor wastes are required in bathrooms?

What are the requirements of working with Asbestos?

What is the Slip Resistance requirement for stairs?

All this information and much more is covered in the latest Building Code of Australia (BCA) also known as the National Construction Code (NCC).

The BCA is produced by the Australian Building Codes Board on behalf of the Federal, State and territory governments and sets out requirements for health, safety, amenity and sustainability of the design and construction of new buildings or new building work in existing buildings.

For any building work in Australia, requirements of the Building Code of Australia must be met.

The Australian Building Codes Board has a website where you can download the BCA with guides to help users. Downloading is free but you need to register which is also free.

Make sure you are BCA Compliant and get the current 2019 edition from the Australian Building Codes Board Website.
